Why REMIX ?

Recovery
Recovery is a process of healing and growth that people with mental health problems go through as they strive to live satisfying and fulfilling lives, even with the limitations caused by their symptoms or illness. It's a deeply personal and unique journey for each person. Being in recovery means learning to regain control of one's health and life, maintaining an optimistic view of the future and focusing on personal strengths that can help one realize one's full potential.

Engagement
At REMIX Lab, we conduct participatory research that engages healthcare system stakeholders as partners in the research process, from project design to the mobilization of the new knowledge we have created.
REMIX Lab members are also committed to actively participating in the design and performance of healthcare systems. Our expertise and involvement add value to healthcare systems.

Mental health
Our primary motivation is to improve the mental health of populations through collaborative, impact-oriented research that transforms the delivery and organization of health and social services.
Approximately one in three Canadians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime. Experiencing a mental illness can have a profound impact on a person's life, their relationships with family and friends, their involvement in their community and society in general.
Anyone facing a mental health problem or illness should be able to access high-quality mental health care quickly, to support them on their personal journey towards recovery. Yet for too many, their experience of care falls far short of this vision. REMIX Lab's job is to make our vision a reality and ensure that everyone receives the mental health care and services they deserve.

Impact
Healthcare systems face many challenges, including workforce issues and shortages, the efficient use of scarce resources, determining how to organize services to meet the ever-changing health needs of the population, the challenges of integrating new technologies and innovations, identifying and reducing health inequalities, and so on.
At REMIX Lab, we know that research can make a difference in these areas. Together with our partners, we aim to conduct impact-oriented research that tackles the major challenges facing our healthcare systems and contributes to better population mental health.

Experiences
Our research is guided by the experiences of people with mental health problems or illnesses within the healthcare system. Far too many Canadians have negative experiences when they come into contact with the healthcare system, whether because their problems go undetected or are misdiagnosed, or because they have difficulty receiving appropriate treatment in a timely manner, or because services do not fully meet their needs, are fragmented or expose them to stigmatizing attitudes. Such experiences run counter to our values, and motivate us to improve the delivery and organization of services to enhance care experiences.
