Hello and welcome. I’m Matthew Menear, founder and director of the REMIX Lab.
The REMIX Lab is a dynamic research team focused on the delivery and organization of mental health services. My team members come from various disciplines, including public health, psychology, anthropology, social work, clinical sciences, and psychiatry. Despite our diverse backgrounds, we are united by a common goal: improving population mental health through collaborative and impactful research, aimed at transforming health care and services.
When I began my undergraduate studies in psychology at McGill University, I never imagined that my journey would lead me here. My goal at the time was to pursue training in neuroscience and conduct research on how the brain functions. After completing my degree, I had the opportunity to work in a neuroimaging lab where we conducted studies on cognition in people with schizophrenia. We formed a high-performing team that brought new insights into the neural bases of memory deficits faced by these individuals.
And yet, I felt something was missing. I didn’t feel like I was making a real difference in the lives of the people participating in our studies. This realization led me to shift towards applied health research, and I pursued training in public health and health services research. Today, I work closely with various partners (clinicians, managers, policymakers, service users) to evaluate and improve the delivery and organization of health services in Quebec, Canada, and internationally. More specifically, we strive to promote mental health services that are more accessible, integrated, person-centered, and recovery-focused. I’m now proud to say that my team and I have the capacity to make a real difference in the healthcare system and in people's lives.
Our website is committed to providing the latest news about our team, information on our current and past projects, as well as tools and resources we’ve developed. We hope it will be a useful platform not only for us but also for the scientific community and our health system partners.
That’s it, I hope many of you will follow us on our journey. And if you would like to get in touch with us or join our team, feel free to click on the links in the menu.
See you soon!
