Why ?

Many people living with depression and anxiety disorders in Quebec struggle to access high-quality mental health care tailored to their needs and preferences. To address this challenge, the Quebec government launched the Quebec Mental Health Program, a provincial initiative aimed at improving access to a broader continuum of proven practices and treatments for common mental disorders. However, implementing the program in some clinical settings, such as Family Medicine Groups, presents several challenges and may not be possible without additional guidance and support for practice change.

Methods

We are conducting a multiple case study incorporating a participatory action research approach. The study is being carried out in three regions of Quebec (Capitale-Nationale, Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec, and Chaudière-Appalaches). In each region, we are collaborating with the regional committees responsible for implementing the Quebec Mental Health Program and with partners within the Family Medicine Groups. Our evaluation will rely on several data collection methods, including meeting recordings, interviews with key informants, brief surveys, and data collected regularly from health managers.

Goals

1. Describe the implementation process of the Quebec Mental Health Program in Family Medicine Groups and identify the factors that facilitate or hinder it.

2. Evaluate the extent to which the Program is implemented in Family Medicine Groups.

3. Evaluate the influence of the Program on the care pathways of adults with common mental disorders who receive care in Family Medicine Groups.

4. Explore the relevance of the program for vulnerable populations and the equity issues related to its implementation.

5. Support the change management process and co-design tools and resources to facilitate the implementation of the Program in Family Medicine Groups.
