Engagement Strategies
in Collaborative Mental Health Care
Why ?
Collaborative mental health care is an evidence-based model of care in which primary and mental health providers work together and share resources, expertise, and decision-making to improve access to high-quality, well-coordinated mental health care. While much research has focused on improving collaboration among the different types of healthcare professionals involved in collaborative care, the relationships between healthcare professionals, service users, and families have received far less attention. For collaborative mental health care to become a truly person- and family-centered model of care, we need a better understanding of how service users and families can be meaningfully engaged as partners in this care.
