Hello and welcome. I am Matthew Menear, founder and director of the REMIX laboratory.
The REMIX laboratory is a dynamic research team that conducts research focused on the delivery and organization of mental health services. My team members come from a variety of disciplines, including public health, psychology, anthropology, social work, clinical sciences, and psychiatry. Despite the diversity of our backgrounds, we are united by a common goal: to improve the mental health of the population through collaborative and impactful research, with the aim of transforming healthcare and services.
When I began my undergraduate studies in psychology at McGill University, I had no idea my path would lead me here. My goal at the time was to pursue training in neuroscience and conduct research on brain function. After graduating, I was fortunate enough to work in a neuroimaging lab where we conducted studies on cognition in people with schizophrenia. We were a high-performing team that contributed new insights into the neural basis of the memory deficits these individuals experience.
And yet, I felt something was missing. I didn't feel like I was making a real difference in the lives of the people participating in our studies. This realization led me to pursue applied health research and to complete training in public health and health services research. Today, I work closely with various partners (clinicians, managers, decision-makers, and service users) to evaluate and improve the delivery and organization of health services in Quebec, Canada, and internationally. More specifically, we strive to promote more accessible, integrated, person-centered, and recovery-oriented mental health services. I am now proud to say that my team and I have the capacity to make a real difference in the healthcare system and in people's lives.
Our website is committed to providing the latest news from our team, information on our current and past projects, as well as tools and resources we have developed. We hope it will be a useful platform not only for us, but also for the scientific community and our healthcare partners.
So, I hope many of you will follow us on our journey. And if you'd like to get in touch or join our team, please click on the links in the menu.
Until next time!
